How Podcasting Can Grow Your Business

Hi guys! Happy Friday! Here in Wisconsin and it's beautiful out and we are finally getting some nice, warm weather. I wanted to share something with you guys here today. I was doing some research and I'm always looking for new ways to improve on marketing and growing people's businesses. I came across some really interesting research and just want to share a little bit of it with you today. So, a company, called Edison Research, did some some surveying and research on podcasting and how that's affecting businesses. Now, some of these statistics are quite honestly staggering and really made me start thinking about how podcasting can help grow your business. In 2017, 112 million Americans listened to a podcast. Now, that's great and that's a really large, but that's just the tip of the iceberg. However, some of these other numbers are just unbelievable. 67 million Americans listen to podcast monthly, 42 million listens weekly and there has been a 10% to 20% increase in listening to podcasts every year. So, to me, that is just an untapped opportunity for a lot of people and you know with something like that you really want to try to get ahead of the curve and build up a loyal listener base. The other thing is, podcasts in the past have been viewed as something only young people listen to and so businesses haven't really taken it seriously. I mean, they're still out there and depending on if you’re business to business or B2C, podcasting might be good for your younger target market. But, a lot of businesses are going after older target markets. The great news is, podcasting is trending more and more away from young listeners and it's turning more towards the older generations - the executives, the people that have buying power and are able to make buying decisions - which is great. Podcasting really can be looked at as a really targeted, focused advertising platform because it doesn't have distractions from anything else. It's not the same as somebody listening to the radio. You got the music. You got other advertisements. Instead, somebody's coming, listening to your podcast and they have all eyes on you. The other really awesome thing is 85% of listeners hear all or most of a podcast. So, a lot of podcast listeners are not coming on your podcast for a minute or two and then hopping off. You really have a great opportunity to get their attention. The last thing is the average listener listens and follows (consistently) 6 podcasts. These are really fantastic numbers and statistics and really should make you think about trying to grow your business with podcasting, using that as a new channel for marketing.
